ICP-Based Approaches for 3D Ear Recognition
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present results of the largest experimental investigation of 3D ear biometrics to date. ICP-based approaches were carefully explored, and the best rank one recognition rate achieves 98.8%. Only 4 cases out of 302 are incorrectly matched, and all due to poor data quality. This result is encouraging in that it suggests the uniqueness of the human ear and its potential applicability as a biometric. 3D Ear Normalization and Recognition Based on Local Surface Variation
Most existing ICP (Iterative Closet Point)-based 3D ear recognition approaches resort to the coarse-to-fine ICP algorithms to match 3D ear models. With such an approach, the gallery-probe pairs are coarsely aligned based on a few local feature points and then finely matched using the original ear point cloud. However, such an approach ignores the fact that not all the points in the coarsely seg...
متن کاملA 3D ear recognition method based on auricle structural feature
The performances of most existing 3D ear recognition methods are degraded sharply by pose variation. In this paper, a 3D ear representation called 3D auricle structural feature(3DASF) and the corresponding pose robust 3D ear recognition method is presented. By measuring the surface characteristics through Surface Variation, 3DASF that contains ear key physiological structure is extracted. Then ...
متن کاملA Fully Automatic Approach for Human Recognition from Profile Images Using 2D and 3D Ear Data
The use of ear shape as a biometric trait for recognizing people in different applications is one of the most recent trends in the research communities. In this work, a fully automatic and fast technique based on the AdaBoost algorithm is used to detect a subject’s ear from his/her 2D and corresponding 3D profile images. A modified version of the Iterative Closest Point (ICP) algorithm is then ...
متن کاملA Fast and Fully Automatic Ear Recognition Approach Based on 3D Local Surface Features
Sensitivity of global features to pose, illumination and scale variations encouraged researchers to use local features for object representation and recognition. Availability of 3D scanners also made the use of 3D data (which is less affected by such variations compared to its 2D counterpart) very popular in computer vision applications. In this paper, an approach is proposed for human ear reco...
متن کاملEar Biometrics in Human Identification System
Biometrics is physical or behavior characteristics that can be used for human identification. We propose the ear as a biometric and investigate it with both 2D and 3D data. The ICP-based algorithm also demonstrates good scalability with size of dataset. These results are encouraging in that they suggest a strong potential for 3D ear shape as a biometric. Multi-biometric 2D and 3D ear recognitio...
